Synopsis
The Danish Girl (2015) is Tom Hooper's drama you can watch online on iFILM. Copenhagen in the 1920s. When a model fails to show, painter Gerda Wegener asks her husband to sit for her in a dress instead. That small favor sets off a story that remakes them both.
Einar Wegener catches a glimpse of someone else in the mirror. At first it's a game: he turns up at bohemian parties as a cousin named Lili, and Gerda plays along. Then Lili stops being a costume. Gerda's portraits of her husband as a woman draw collectors and praise, even as the marriage strains under the weight of the truth. She doesn't walk away — she stays close while the person she loves searches for doctors willing to attempt what medicine had never tried.
Lili is drawn from a real Danish artist, among the earliest people to undergo surgical gender reassignment in the early 1930s.
