Synopsis

All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989) is Don Bluth's animated feature, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Charlie B. Barkin runs a crooked casino on the wrong side of New Orleans until his old partner Carface has him killed. He lands in heaven anyway, because every dog does.

Charlie has no patience for paradise. He sneaks back to the living to settle the score, and ends up rescuing Anne-Marie, an orphan who can talk to animals and pick the winner of any race. With his wheezing dachshund pal Itchy in tow, Charlie tries to run one last hustle. Burt Reynolds and Dom DeLuise voice the leads, with young Judith Barsy as Anne-Marie.

Bluth, the animator behind Anastasia and The Land Before Time, folds a 1930s gangster caper, a few songs and a surprisingly heavy meditation on guilt and second chances into one film. It runs darker than most family animation of its era, which is exactly why it stuck with a generation. Stream All Dogs Go to Heaven (1989) online on iFILM.
