Synopsis
The Green Knight (2021) is an A24 fantasy from writer-director David Lowery — watch it online on iFILM. Dev Patel plays Sir Gawain, King Arthur's young and untested nephew, in a haunting reimagining of the 14th-century poem.
On Christmas night a massive, moss-green figure rides into Camelot and proposes a game: any knight may strike him, but must meet him in one year to receive the same blow in return. Gawain snatches up an axe, takes off the stranger's head, and watches him pick it up and ride out laughing. A year passes. Gawain sets out north — not as a hero, but as a man trying to honor a promise he made before he understood what it cost. Along the road he crosses paths with Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, and Barry Keoghan, each encounter stranger and more unsettling than the last.
Lowery shot the film as an immersive, image-driven meditation on courage, mortality, and what it means to become worthy of one's own legend. Cinematographer Andrew Droz Palermo gives every frame the texture of illuminated manuscript. Stream The Green Knight (2021) on iFILM.
