Synopsis
Mary Poppins (1964) is Disney's musical fantasy you can watch online on iFILM. Into the buttoned-up London home of the Banks family drifts a nanny who arrives on the east wind, holding an umbrella, and the household's stiff routine starts to crack.
Jane and Michael are used to parents busy with the bank and suffragette rallies. Their new caretaker (Julie Andrews) skips the dull lectures. She leaps with the children into a chalk pavement drawing, takes tea while floating near the ceiling, and introduces them to Bert, a chimney sweep played by Dick Van Dyke who dances across the rooftops with a soot-covered crew. Bit by bit, the cold Mr. Banks learns to hear his own kids again.
Director Robert Stevenson blended live actors with hand-drawn animation decades before digital tricks existed. Adapted from P.L. Travers' books, the film took five Academy Awards in 1965, among them Andrews' Best Actress win for her screen debut and the prize for the song "Chim Chim Cher-ee." People have been singing "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" ever since. Stream Mary Poppins (1964) online on iFILM.
