Synopsis
The Witcher (2019) is a Netflix fantasy series you can watch online on iFILM — all seasons, 32 episodes and counting. It adapts the book cycle by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, produced by Hivemind and Poland's Platige Films.
Geralt of Rivia is a mutated monster hunter who was trained from childhood to kill things most people pretend don't exist. The world around him is fracturing: border wars, collapsing kingdoms and a web of competing mages all pulling in different directions. At the centre of it is Ciri — Freya Allan as a young princess whose power makes her the most wanted person on the continent. Anya Chalotra plays Yennefer, a sorceress who is formidable and unpredictable in equal measure. Joey Batey's bard Jaskier provides the comic relief and some surprisingly catchy songs. Season 4 brought Liam Hemsworth into the lead role, with Laurence Fishburne joining as the ancient vampire Regis.
Sapkowski wrote the first Geralt short stories in 1986 — decades before the character became a gaming icon via CD Projekt Red's game trilogy. The show runs multiple timelines in parallel, trusts the viewer to keep up, and keeps the monster-of-the-week format while building a much larger political story underneath.
