Harry is running two parallel problems. He's on trial for shooting a serial-murder suspect, with the department deciding whether he acted in self-defense or just executed someone. At the same time, a child's remains surface in the hills above the city — a cold case that pulls him back into a disappearance nobody solved years ago. Deputy Chief Irvin Irving, played by Lance Reddick, watches all of it and works his own angle. Harry's daughter Maddie wants to join the force. He can't talk her out of it.

The show is adapted from Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch novels, one of the longest-running detective series in American crime fiction.
