Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed (2016) is a sci-fi action film from director Justin Kurzel that you can watch online on iFILM. Adapted from the Ubisoft game series, it opens with death-row inmate Callum Lynch waking up alive inside a hidden lab, hooked to a machine that reads the memories of his bloodline.

The device, called the Animus, throws his mind five centuries back into Inquisition-era Spain, where his ancestor Aguilar lived and fought as a member of an old order of Assassins. The corporation running the experiment is hunting a buried relic through his blood and reaching for it with the hands of the Templars. Michael Fassbender plays both men, Marion Cotillard is the scientist conducting the tests, and Jeremy Irons and Brendan Gleeson lend weight to this fight over free will.

Kurzel, who had just made a brutal Macbeth with Fassbender, staged the medieval Andalusian sequences for real, with practical stunts and an actual leap of faith.
