Synopsis
The Edge of Seventeen (2016) is a coming-of-age dramedy you can watch online on iFILM. Nadine is a junior in high school, certain the entire world is against her. Then things get genuinely worse.
Her one and only friend Krista starts dating Nadine's older brother, the effortlessly popular guy Nadine cannot stand. Suddenly alone, she dumps all her bitterness on the single adult willing to put up with her: her dry, deadpan history teacher Mr. Bruner. Hailee Steinfeld plays Nadine with none of the usual teen-movie sweetness, prickly and self-absorbed and painfully recognizable. Woody Harrelson handles the sarcasm, Hayley Lu Richardson plays the best friend, and Kyra Sedgwick the worn-out mom.
This was Kelly Fremon Craig's directing debut, and her script keeps a sharp edge, showing adolescent awkwardness without softening it. Critics warmed to the film right away, and Steinfeld's performance earned a Golden Globe nomination. Stream The Edge of Seventeen (2016) online on iFILM.
