Detective Angela Abar (Regina King) works the streets of Tulsa under the mask "Sister Night." A coordinated wave of attacks on police officers pulls her into a confrontation with the Seventh Kavalry, a white-supremacist group that treats the dead vigilante Rorschach as a prophet. Meanwhile, an elderly man confined to a lavish English estate — played by Jeremy Irons — stages elaborate theatrical performances whose purpose becomes clear only in the final act. The two storylines are bound together by a secret buried in 1921 Tulsa.
