Synopsis
The Campaign (2012) is an American political comedy directed by Jay Roach — watch it online on iFILM. Will Ferrell plays Cam Brady, a North Carolina congressman who has run unopposed for years and is barely pretending to do the job. Zach Galifianakis plays Marty Huggins, a soft-natured local man with a llama-walking business, propped up by two cynical billionaire brothers (John Lithgow and Dan Aykroyd) who want a puppet in Congress.
Brady and Huggins spend the weeks before election day escalating through increasingly unhinged tactics: attack ads, physical altercations, a baby punching incident that becomes a news cycle unto itself. Jason Sudeikis and Dylan McDermott round out the cast as campaign staffers who make everything worse. Roach previously directed the political biopics W. and Game Change, so the satirical logic here is deliberate, even if the comedy is loud.
Ninety minutes, no pretense, plenty of collateral damage. Stream The Campaign (2012) on iFILM.
