Zatoichi (2003) is a Japanese action drama you can watch online on iFILM. Takeshi Kitano wrote, directed, and stars as the title character — a blind wanderer who drifts through 19th-century Japan earning a few coins as a masseur and dice gambler, with a concealed sword he draws faster than most men can blink.

Arriving in a mountain village crushed under the heel of yakuza boss Ginzo, Zatoichi lands between competing forces. Tadanobu Asano plays Hattori, a masterless samurai hired by Ginzo whose own loyalties are complicated. Two geisha sisters have also come to town — not for the work, but to track down the man responsible for their parents' deaths.

Kitano produced the film through his own Office Kitano label as a radical reworking of a franchise that ran to 26 entries between the 1960s and the 1980s. The film won the Silver Lion at Venice 2003 and closes with a tap-dance sequence nobody saw coming. Stream Zatoichi (2003) online on iFILM.
