Synopsis

Fifteen years after they burned a witch alive in her candy cottage, Hansel and Gretel (Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton) earn a living hunting the things that go bump in the forest. A town hires them when children start vanishing. Behind the abductions is Muriel, a grand witch played with icy menace by Famke Janssen. The deeper the siblings dig, the closer they get to the truth about who their parents really were.
Wirkola goes deliberately rough: steampunk weaponry, a hulking troll named Edward, gore and gallows humor in equal measure. The film never pretends to be serious; it runs on speed and the scale of its fights. For a loud genre mash-up that asks nothing of you, it delivers.
