About

Synopsis

An Education (2009) is a British coming-of-age drama to watch online on iFILM, directed by Lone Scherfig from Nick Hornby's screenplay, with Carey Mulligan, Peter Sarsgaard, and Alfred Molina. Runtime: 100 minutes.

Jenny is 16, sharp enough for Oxford, and completely bored by the suburban London world her father has mapped out for her. Then David arrives — older, smooth, driving something fast — and starts showing her concerts, auction houses, Paris weekends. He makes the life her teachers promised look slow and grey by comparison.

Mulligan's Oscar-nominated performance is the whole engine here: she makes Jenny's choices completely legible without excusing them. Hornby's script, drawn from journalist Lynn Barber's memoir, keeps the tone dry and precise — no melodrama, no easy lessons, just the particular education that comes from being young and briefly certain you've found a shortcut.
