Synopsis
Heathers (1989) is a pitch-black high school comedy directed by Michael Lehmann — watch it online on iFILM. Winona Ryder plays Veronica, a sharp girl stuck inside the most vicious clique at Westerburg High, a trio of girls all named Heather (Shannen Doherty, Lisanne Falk, Kim Walker) who decide the social fate of everyone around them.
When mysterious transfer student JD (Christian Slater) shows up in a leather jacket with very dark ideas about social justice, Veronica finds an exit she wasn't expecting. Daniel Waters' screenplay plays the violence as comedy — but a cold, specific kind, aimed straight at cheerleader culture, teen suicide coverage, and the machine that produces popularity.
The film flopped on release and became a cult classic on home video, influencing a generation of teen satires. Stream Heathers (1989) on iFILM and see exactly where the genre started.
