Shutter Island

Shutter Island (2010) is available to watch online — Martin Scorsese's psychological thriller and mystery with Leonardo DiCaprio. Two marshals sail to an island that seems determined never to let them leave.

The year is 1954. Teddy Daniels (DiCaprio) and his partner Chuck (Mark Ruffalo) arrive at Ashecliffe, a locked hospital for the criminally insane, to investigate a patient who vanished from a sealed room. Head psychiatrist Dr. Cawley (Ben Kingsley) gives slippery answers, the staff hold something back, and a hurricane rolls in to cut off any way home. The deeper Teddy digs, the less he can trust his own eyes — visions of his dead wife and fragments of the war keep bleeding into the case. Where the conspiracy ends and his own breakdown begins is a question the film is in no hurry to settle.

Adapted from Dennis Lehane's novel by Paramount and Scorsese's own production house, the picture lets cinematographer Robert Richardson turn light and shadow into clues, while the score presses down long before the first twist.
