Synopsis

The Straight Story (1999) is a quiet, deeply human drama by David Lynch — watch it online on iFILM. Richard Farnsworth plays Alvin Straight, a 73-year-old Iowa farmer who gets word that his estranged brother in Wisconsin has had a stroke. They haven't spoken in a decade.

No driver's license. No interest in a bus. So Alvin does the only thing that makes sense to him: he hitches a trailer to his lawnmower and sets off on a nearly 300-mile journey along the highway. Sissy Spacek plays his daughter Rose, who stays behind and waits. Along the way, Alvin picks up hitchhikers, shares meals with strangers, and trades stories with veterans. Each stop is its own quiet reckoning.

Lynch stripped away everything that usually marks his films — no dread, no surrealism — leaving only the flat fields of the Midwest and a stubborn old man inching toward forgiveness. Farnsworth earned an Oscar nomination for the role. Stream The Straight Story (1999) on iFILM.
