The Lost City of Z

Percy Fawcett is a career soldier with no famous name when the Royal Geographical Society sends him to map a border in Bolivia. Deep in the rainforest he turns up shards and traces that point to one thing: a large settlement stood here long before any European arrived. London laughs him off. Fawcett keeps going back, losing years away from his wife and his son (Holland), until the search hardens into an obsession that spans decades.

Gray didn't shoot a thrill ride. He built a slow, near-hypnotic film about stubbornness and what a dream costs. The story comes from David Grann's book, and it ends the way it ended in life: in 1925 the expedition walked into the green wall and never came out. 141 minutes into the unknown.
