Synopsis
Einstein and Eddington (2008) is a British biographical TV film you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Philip Martin. Andy Serkis plays Albert Einstein and David Tennant plays astronomer Arthur Eddington, with Jim Broadbent and Rebecca Hall in support.
It is 1914 and Europe is days from war. Einstein works in Berlin on equations that will overturn three centuries of physics. In Cambridge, Eddington reads his papers and grasps what they mean. The two begin to correspond across enemy lines — a act that could be branded treason on either side. Eddington's colleagues want nothing to do with German science during wartime. Einstein's government considers his ideas a betrayal of national pride.
The chance to settle the question comes with a solar eclipse in May 1919. Eddington sails to the island of Príncipe with telescopes and photographic plates. The images he brings back confirm that starlight bends around the sun exactly as Einstein's theory demanded — and the world is never the same again.
