Synopsis
Heavy Metal 2000 (2000) is a Canadian-German adult animated action film you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Michael Coldewey and Michel Lemire, it returns to the hard-edged sci-fi universe of the 1981 Heavy Metal cult classic, trading that film's anthology format for a single revenge-driven story.
Miner Tyler stumbles on a shard of the Loc-Nar and instantly transforms into a power-hungry tyrant fixated on reaching the immortality source on the planet Uroboros. He tears through a space colony on the way and abducts a young woman — the one mistake that sets her sister Julie on his trail. Julie, call sign F.A.K.K. 2, hunts Tyler across alien worlds packed with marauders and strange creatures. Michael Ironside voices the villain with his trademark menace; Julie Strain voices the warrior pursuing him. Billy Idol contributes to the soundtrack.
The film swaps the original's freewheeling anthology structure for a tighter, leaner 88-minute chase. Fans of raw, unapologetic genre animation tend to find what they're looking for; those who came for the variety of the 1981 film may find the single-story approach less satisfying.
