Synopsis
Neds (2010) is a gritty British drama from director Peter Mullan you can watch online on iFILM. Conor McCarron plays John McGill, a boy growing up in working-class Glasgow in the 1970s. He starts the film as a prize pupil. He doesn't end that way.
John is smart enough to escape his street. But his brother is a known troublemaker, his father drinks, and the local gangs have their own rules for who fits in and who gets left bleeding. Each compromise is small. The drift is slow. By the time John realises what he's become, conformity feels impossible and violence feels inevitable.
Mullan — who also plays John's father — won the Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival 2010 for the film. The title is a Scottish slang term: Non-Educated Delinquents. Stream Neds online on iFILM.
