Synopsis
Love Streams (1984) is available to watch online on iFILM — an American drama directed by John Cassavetes that won the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. Robert Harmon is a successful writer who runs his life like an open tab: alcohol, women, zero accountability. His sister Sarah has just lost a husband and a daughter to divorce. Together they form a portrait of two people who have never learned to hold love — only to drown in it.
Robert gets his eight-year-old son dropped off for a few days and has no idea what to do with him. Sarah shows up at his door with suitcases, farm animals, and a determination to fix what can't be fixed. Cassavetes shot in his signature loose, semi-improvisational style, letting the camera follow Gena Rowlands and Cassavetes himself as if catching them off guard. Rowlands as Sarah delivers one of the most unguarded and precise performances in 1980s American cinema.
The film grew from a stage play by Ted Allan, written specifically for the Cassavetes–Rowlands partnership — two actors who were also husband and wife. It stands as the last full-length theatrical feature John Cassavetes would direct. Stream Love Streams (1984) online on iFILM.
