Suspiria

Suspiria (1977) is an Italian horror film directed by Dario Argento — watch it online on iFILM. American dancer Suzy Bannion arrives at a prestigious Munich ballet academy and, on her very first night, witnesses something she was never meant to see.

Jessica Harper plays Suzy: drugged with spiked wine, told her nightmares are stress, and quietly steered away from the wrong corridors. Her new friend Sara, played by Stefania Casini, starts asking the same questions — and ends up paying for it. Girls go missing. The smell behind the walls gets worse. Madame Blanc smiles and says nothing.

Argento built the film almost without exposition: acid-green and blood-red lighting, Goblin's hammering score, and a visual grammar borrowed from German Expressionism rather than conventional horror. Shot on Technicolor stock in its final years of production, Suspiria became the benchmark of the giallo genre and has influenced filmmakers from John Carpenter to Luca Guadagnino, who remade it in 2018.
