Synopsis
Watch Medicine for Melancholy (2009) online on iFILM — director Barry Jenkins' quiet debut feature, shot across San Francisco before Moonlight made his name. Micah and Joanne wake up in a stranger's apartment after a party neither can fully recall, then spend the next twelve hours drifting through the city together.
The film moves slowly on purpose: coffee, bike lanes, a gallery, long pauses between sentences. Jenkins uses that unhurried pace to fold something bigger into the romance — a portrait of a city mid-gentrification, where staying and belonging grows harder every year for young Black residents. Wyatt Cenac and Tracey Heggins carry every scene between them. Stream Medicine for Melancholy online on iFILM.
