Synopsis
God's Own Country (2017) is a British romantic drama you can watch online on iFILM. It marks the feature debut of Francis Lee, who tells the story of a young farmer with no language for what he feels.
Johnny works a struggling farm in a remote stretch of Yorkshire. His father is barely mobile after a stroke, his grandmother is silent and hard, the sheep keep falling ill, and his nights blur into cheap beer and wordless casual sex. When lambing season comes, the family hires a seasonal worker from Romania, the calm and capable Gheorghe. At first there is only friction between the two men, cold mud and brute labor. Then, out on the rain-soaked hills, Johnny feels something he has no idea how to say out loud.
Lee shot in the landscape he grew up in, stripping away score and gloss to leave wind, dirt and working hands. Josh O'Connor and Alec Secăreanu carry much of it in silence. The film won prizes at Sundance and the Berlinale. Stream God's Own Country (2017) online on iFILM.
