Synopsis
Life on Mars (2006) is a BBC One crime drama series you can watch online on iFILM. Manchester detective Sam Tyler, played by John Simm, is struck by a speeding car in 2006 — and wakes up in 1973. Same city. Completely different rules.
Sam cannot work out what has happened to him. Is he in a coma? Has he lost his mind? Or did he genuinely travel back in time? The 1973 around him feels real enough: he is assigned as a detective sergeant under the loud, uncompromising DCI Gene Hunt, played by Philip Glenister, who solves crimes with intimidation and instinct rather than forensics and procedure. Sam keeps trying to apply modern policing methods. Hunt keeps ignoring them. The two make a deeply mismatched pair — and somehow it works.
The series ran for two seasons and sixteen episodes on BBC One between 2006 and 2007. The title comes from the David Bowie song Sam was listening to when he was hit. The show won a BAFTA for Best Drama and spawned two spin-offs, including Ashes to Ashes. Stream all episodes of Life on Mars online on iFILM.
