Ichabod Crane fell in battle two and a half centuries ago, but not before taking his enemy's head. Now he comes to in a modern town in upstate New York, baffled by smartphones and coffee shops. Trouble is, the headless killer he once beheaded is loose again, hunting for his missing skull. Lieutenant Abbie Mills is the only cop willing to take Ichabod's story seriously, and the deeper the pair dig, the clearer it gets: the murders trace back to a conspiracy reaching the founding fathers themselves.

The show plays loose with Washington Irving's old tale, blending apocalyptic prophecy, occult puzzles and the dry comedy of a man two hundred years out of his depth. Tom Mison and Nicole Beharie carry it as a sharp odd-couple duo, with John Noble and Nikki Reed in the mix. Its premiere drew record numbers for a Fox debut.
