Day Watch

Day Watch (Dnevnoy Dozor, 2006) is a Russian fantasy epic by Timur Bekmambetov you can watch online on iFILM. It picks up after Night Watch, when the truce between the forces of Light and Dark starts to crack. A Dark Other turns up dead in a Moscow stairwell, and every finger points at the Light side.

Anton Gorodetsky (Konstantin Khabensky) is the one without an alibi, so the murder lands on him. While Geser (Vladimir Menshov) scrambles to clear his own people, a far bigger prize is in play: the Chalk of Fate, an artifact that can rewrite the past and tip the endless war for good. Svetlana (Maria Poroshina), the Dark lord Zavulon (Viktor Verzhbitsky), and Alisa, played by pop star Zhanna Friske, all circle the fallout.

Adapted from Sergei Lukyanenko's novel, the film leans hard into Bekmambetov's wild visual style. The shot of a car driving sideways up the face of a skyscraper became one of the defining images of 2000s Russian cinema.
