The film tracks several families in one ordinary American town. A teenage boy retreats into online games and explicit sites; his father browses the same corners of the web alone at night; his mother starts a flirtation she keeps hidden. One girl runs a fitness blog that is slowly tipping her into an eating disorder, while her mother reads every text she sends. Everyone here carries a second, digital life their family never sees.

Adam Sandler takes a rare dramatic turn alongside Jennifer Garner and Rosemarie DeWitt, with a young Timothée Chalamet, Kaitlyn Dever and Ansel Elgort filling out the ensemble; Emma Thompson narrates.
