Synopsis
Little Voice (1998) is a British musical drama directed by Mark Herman — watch it online on iFILM. Jane Horrocks plays LV, a painfully withdrawn young woman who barely speaks and almost never leaves her room. She lives inside her late father's record collection. But at night, alone, she sings — and her voice is an exact replica of Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, Shirley Bassey.
Her brash, chaotic mother Mari, played by Brenda Blethyn, brings home a small-time talent agent named Ray Say — Michael Caine at his most charming and self-serving. Ray hears LV through a thin wall and smells money. He pushes her onto a stage she never asked for, while Ewan McGregor's soft-spoken phone engineer Billy is the only person who actually sees her. Jim Broadbent rounds out the cast as the nightclub owner caught in the middle.
Horrocks performed every vocal impression live and in full — no lip-sync, no stand-ins. Blethyn won the Golden Globe for Best Actress and received an Academy Award nomination. Stream Little Voice (1998) online on iFILM.
