Synopsis
The Mummy (1932) is the classic Universal horror film you can watch online on iFILM. Boris Karloff plays Imhotep, an ancient Egyptian priest who rises from his bandages after thirty-seven centuries in the tomb.
A British dig unearths the priest's mummy, and one careless researcher reads a life-giving spell aloud from an old scroll. Imhotep walks out into the Cairo night. Posing as the scholar Ardath Bey, he hunts for Helen Grosvenor (Zita Johann), whose face matches the princess he loved and buried nearly four thousand years ago. Karloff barely moves and never raises his voice; the dread lives entirely in his stare and his slow, deliberate steps.
The film was directed by Karl Freund, cinematographer of Metropolis and Dracula, and his command of shadow carries every scene. Jack Pierce's makeup took eight hours to apply to Karloff. This is the picture that fixed the image of the walking dead for decades of horror to follow. Stream The Mummy (1932) online on iFILM.
