The Prom

The Prom (2020) is a Netflix musical comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Adapted from the Broadway hit, it follows four fading stage stars who roll into small-town Indiana to rescue their public image and, along the way, a teenager barred from bringing her girlfriend to the dance.

In the town of Edgewater, the PTA cancels prom outright rather than let a same-sex couple attend. The story reaches New York, where a quartet of actors are reeling from a flop opening night. They decide a loud, splashy cause is exactly what their press clippings need. The longer they stay, though, the less it looks like a stunt. Meryl Streep leads as Dee Dee Allen, joined by Nicole Kidman, James Corden, Kerry Washington and Ariana DeBose.

Director Ryan Murphy, the man behind Glee and American Horror Story, leans all the way into color, glitter and big production numbers. The result is brash, deliberately over-the-top, and built around one simple idea: everyone deserves their own dance. Stream The Prom (2020) online on iFILM.
