Synopsis

Singin' in the Rain (1952) is the MGM musical you can watch online on iFILM. Hollywood, 1927, the year the movies learned to talk.

Don Lockwood is a beloved star of silent pictures whose studio scrambles to turn its costume romance into a talkie. One problem: his on-screen partner, the vain Lina Lamont, has a shrill voice no microphone can forgive. The fix is Kathy, a young chorus girl who secretly dubs Lina, with Don's wisecracking buddy Cosmo running interference. Gene Kelly plays Lockwood and co-directed the dances with Stanley Donen; Debbie Reynolds is Kathy, Donald O'Connor is Cosmo, and Jean Hagen steals scenes as Lina.

Built around a dozen old songs from Broadway revues, the film turned nearly every number into film legend, from Kelly twirling an umbrella through a downpour to O'Connor's acrobatic "Make 'Em Laugh." A light comedy about the panic of the sound era, it sits near the top of every greatest-films list ever written. Stream Singin' in the Rain (1952) online on iFILM.
