Cindy Mancini needs the cash to replace an outfit she ruined, so she plays along. The plan works almost too well. Overnight, the kid nobody noticed becomes the talk of the hallways. But the higher Ronald climbs, the harder it gets to tell the act from real feelings, and the friend he ditched for his new status starts slipping away. A young Patrick Dempsey carries the lead, years before fame, alongside Amanda Peterson and a teenage Seth Green.
