About

Synopsis

Blue Hawaii (1961) is a sun-drenched musical comedy starring Elvis Presley — watch it online on iFILM. Director Norman Taurog put Elvis front and centre as Chad Gates, a young man freshly discharged from the Army who returns to Hawaii's beaches determined to live on his own terms. His father wants him in the family pineapple business. Chad wants anything but.

He lands a job as a tour guide, steering a group of visitors through the island's lush scenery while navigating the tension between his parents' expectations and the life he actually wants. Joan Blackman plays his girlfriend Maile, and Angela Lansbury delivers a sharp comic turn as his overbearing mother. The soundtrack runs fourteen tracks, including "Can't Help Falling in Love" — a song that became one of Presley's signatures almost entirely because of this film.

Blue Hawaii pulled in around five million dollars at the 1961 box office and locked in Elvis as a reliable movie draw for years. It's bright, breezy, packed with music, and set against genuinely beautiful Hawaiian scenery. Stream Blue Hawaii (1961) in good quality on iFILM.
