Synopsis
Fallen Angels (1995) is Wong Kar-wai's crime romance you can watch online on iFILM. His Hong Kong plays out like a fever dream: smeared neon, cramped diners, streetlights bleeding across wet pavement after midnight.
A contract killer has spent three years carrying out hits arranged by a partner he almost never meets — a woman quietly in love with him from a distance. When he decides to walk away from the work, their fragile arrangement starts to crack. Meanwhile, a mute ex-convict roams the same streets at night, breaking into shuttered shops and forcing strangers to buy his goods, chasing any scrap of connection he can find. The lives brush past each other in passing, the way they do in a huge city where everyone is alone together.
The film grew out of a storyline cut from Chungking Express and became its own thing. Cinematographer Christopher Doyle shot faces up close through a wide-angle lens, so the whole picture warps and shivers. Leon Lai, Michelle Reis, Takeshi Kaneshiro and Karen Mok lead the cast.
