Synopsis

Three separate eras share a single ancient ginkgo tree on the grounds of a university in Marburg, Germany. In 1908, the botany department's first female student forces her way into a world that doesn't want her there. In 1972, a reserved young man named Hannes quietly fixates on his housemate Grete and the geranium she tends. In 2020, a Hong Kong neuroscientist named Tony Wong — played by Tony Leung Chiu-wai — is stranded on a locked-down campus and needs the old ginkgo for an experiment. Léa Seydoux plays Alice. The tree outlives them all.
