Synopsis
Year of the Rabbit (2019) is a British comedy-detective series you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Ben Taylor and written by Andy Riley. It drops us into a version of Victorian London that smells bad, where Jack the Ripper is still at large and the police budget is a running joke.
Matt Berry plays Detective Inspector Rabbit — a veteran who drinks heavily and has long stopped pretending otherwise. Paired with an earnest, book-trained rookie named Wotton (Freddie Fox) and the Commissioner's ambitious ward Mimi (Susan Wokoma) — the first woman ever admitted to the force, which no one takes seriously — Rabbit works cases involving street gangs, fraudulent spiritualists, corrupt politicians, and, in one episode, the Elephant Man.
Berry is the entire engine of the show. His deadpan bass voice and bottomless contempt for procedure land every line. The episodes are short and the pace never lets up. Stream Year of the Rabbit online on iFILM.
