About

Synopsis

The Secret World of Arrietty (2010) is a Studio Ghibli animated film you can watch online on iFILM. First-time director Hiromasa Yonebayashi adapted Mary Norton's 1952 novel The Borrowers, with voices by Mirai Shida and Ryunosuke Kamiki.

Arrietty is four inches tall and lives beneath the floorboards of an old Japanese house with her parents, Pod and Homily. The family survives by borrowing small things from the humans above — a sugar cube, a scrap of tissue, a pin. Being seen is forbidden. When a sickly twelve-year-old boy named Sho spots Arrietty on a late-night errand, a quiet friendship forms between them, but it puts the family at risk: the suspicious housekeeper Haru starts hunting for proof, and Pod and Homily begin preparing to move.

Released in Japan in July 2010, the film earned around $150 million worldwide and stands among Ghibli's strongest box-office results of that era. Stream The Secret World of Arrietty in full on iFILM.
