About

Synopsis

Amadeus (1984) is Miloš Forman's historical drama — watch it online on iFILM. The film adapts Peter Shaffer's stage play: aging court composer Antonio Salieri, confined to a Viennese asylum, confesses to a young priest, and what pours out is thirty years of obsession with a man he could never become. F. Murray Abraham plays Salieri; Tom Hulce plays Mozart.

Salieri is respected, disciplined, devout — and utterly convinced that God rewards hard work. Then Mozart walks in. The man is rude, childish, laughs at his own jokes. He writes full scores without erasing a single note. And what he produces sounds, to Salieri's ears, like the voice of God himself. That gap — divine talent poured into the wrong vessel — is where the story lives. Salieri's envy does not explode; it calcifies over decades into something cold and methodical.

Shot almost entirely on location in Prague, with production design by Patrizia von Brandenstein and cinematography by Miroslav Ondříček built to match Mozart's music frame by frame. At the 1985 Academy Awards, the film won eight Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor for Abraham. Stream Amadeus (1984) in full online on iFILM.
