Synopsis

The night before her seventeenth birthday, Mari and her friend Phyllis leave their quiet suburb for a rock concert in the city. Looking to buy some weed along the way, they cross paths with a gang of fugitives led by the brutal Krug. The evening turns into something neither girl saw coming. Then chance brings these same people to the doorstep of the house where Mari's parents are waiting up.
Craven shot the film on almost no money, loosely reworking Ingmar Bergman's The Virgin Spring into rural 1970s America. The grainy, near-documentary look and the famous tagline "It's only a movie" made it a scandal in its day and a cult landmark later. David Hess plays Krug, with Sandra Peabody as Mari.
