About

Synopsis

The Harder They Fall (1956) is a boxing drama directed by Mark Robson — watch online on iFILM. Humphrey Bogart, in his final screen performance, plays sportswriter Eddie Willis: seventeen years at a newspaper, nothing saved, and now deep inside the dirtiest corner of the fight game.

Crooked promoter Nick Benko, played with reptilian calm by Rod Steiger, hires Eddie to sell Toro Moreno — an Argentine giant with a glass jaw and no real punch — as a championship contender. The formula is simple: buy the judges, fix every bout, cash out at the top. When reigning champion Buddy Brannen steps into the ring with genuine intent to hurt, Eddie has to decide how much of himself he has already sold.

Based on Budd Schulberg's novel, the film hit hard enough to spark congressional hearings into professional boxing in the United States. Bogart's last role is also one of his most unsparing. Stream The Harder They Fall (1956) on iFILM.
