Synopsis
The Cat Returns (猫の恩返し, 2002) is a Studio Ghibli fantasy you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Hiroyuki Morita, the film runs 75 minutes and spins out of the same world as Whisper of the Heart (1995).
Teenager Haru saves a cat from a speeding car — only to find out he is the Prince of the Cat Kingdom. The Cat King, delighted, decides she must marry his son and sweeps her straight into his royal court. Haru has no interest in becoming a cat forever. Her only allies: Muta, a portly stray with a checkered past, and Baron, an elegant cat figurine who comes to life when it matters most.
The Cat Kingdom is painted absurd on purpose — fish-paved roads, whiskered attendants and stiff ceremonies that barely disguise the fact that Haru is a prisoner.
