Freaks

Freaks (2019) is a science-fiction thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Seven-year-old Chloe lives with her father inside a boarded-up house on the edge of Los Angeles. He forbids her to step outside, go near the windows or speak to anyone at all.

Chloe doesn't know exactly what her father is afraid of, but she sees the loaded gun he keeps close and the fake name and backstory he makes her rehearse. Her one escape is the ice-cream truck parked nearby, whose driver keeps coaxing her out the door. One day she breaks the rule, and the world beyond the porch turns out to be nothing like the one her father described. Emile Hirsch plays the father, Bruce Dern is the strange old man in the truck, and Lexy Kolker carries the film as Chloe.

Directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein build the tension through a child's eyes, a girl who can't grasp the rules of adult fear. This tight 105-minute story stays mostly inside one house before it finally breaks loose. Stream Freaks (2019) online on iFILM.
