Synopsis
Greyfriars Bobby (1961) is a Disney family drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Don Chaffey. It tells the true story of a Skye terrier who spent fourteen years sleeping beside his owner's grave in Edinburgh's Greyfriars kirkyard — from the shepherd's death in the 1860s until Bobby himself died in 1872.
An old shepherd and his small dog come into the city. The man dies. The dog refuses to leave. Caretakers try to remove him, the city demands a license, neighbouring families offer beds he won't take. Bobby keeps coming back to the same patch of ground. Donald Crisp, Laurence Naismith and Gordon Jackson appear in the supporting cast, but the film belongs entirely to its four-legged subject.
Edinburgh eventually gave Bobby a proper headstone and a bronze statue on Candlemaker Row that still draws visitors today. The film matches that quiet dignity — no grand speeches, just the plain record of something that actually happened. Stream Greyfriars Bobby (1961) online on iFILM.
