Synopsis

Pawn Sacrifice (2015) is a biographical thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Edward Zwick. It follows Bobby Fischer, the American chess prodigy whose genius came bundled with a mind that turned on him: the higher he climbed, the more he heard wiretaps, plots, and enemies whispering through the walls.

Everything builds toward Reykjavik in the summer of 1972, where Fischer faced Soviet world champion Boris Spassky across the board. For two rival superpowers the match meant far more than a game; it became the Cold War fought in sixty-four squares, with the whole planet watching. Fischer walks out of negotiations, makes impossible demands, and nearly bolts before play begins, while his handlers, lawyer Paul Marshall and priest-grandmaster Bill Lombardy, scramble to keep him from coming apart.

Tobey Maguire plays Fischer and produced the film, with Liev Schreiber delivering most of Spassky's lines in Russian. The screenplay draws in part on transcripts of the real games. Stream Pawn Sacrifice (2015) online on iFILM.
