Synopsis
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe (2023) is an American coming-of-age drama directed by Aitch Alberto — watch it online on iFILM. El Paso, 1987. Aristotle (Max Pelayo) is a closed-off Mexican-American teen: his brother is in prison, his father came back from Vietnam and never really came back. Dante (Reese Gonzales) is his opposite — reads poetry, says what he thinks, swims without embarrassment. They meet at a public pool and spend a summer figuring out what to call what they feel.
The supporting cast includes Eugenio Derbez and Eva Longoria. The film adapts Benjamin Alire Sáenz's award-winning 2012 novel, which took the Pura Belpré Award and the Stonewall Book Award. Director Alberto resists the pull toward big emotional scenes, letting the two boys exist in long pauses and sideways glances.
