Gustav Borg (Skarsgård), a once-celebrated director chasing a comeback, shows up at his ex-wife's funeral and immediately offers his estranged daughter Nora (Reinsve), a stage actress, the lead role in his new film. She refuses. He gives it to an ambitious young Hollywood star, Rachel Kemp (Fanning). Younger sister Agnes (Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas) watches from the side as her father once again puts the camera before the family — and twenty years of silence begin to crack open.
