Synopsis

The Art of Getting By (2011) is an indie coming-of-age drama directed by Gavin Wiesen, available to watch online on iFILM. George is a Manhattan senior who built an entire worldview around one conclusion: if death makes everything meaningless, homework included, why bother? He makes it to his final year without handing in a single assignment. Freddie Highmore plays him with a quiet, self-defeating intelligence — a kid who's too sharp for his own good and too withdrawn to do anything about it.

Then Sally walks in. Emma Roberts plays her as someone genuinely complicated — popular on the surface, looking for real connection underneath. She spots something in George worth pulling toward the light. Michael Angarano plays an older artist who gives George the first glimpse of a life built around making things rather than avoiding them. Small-scale and a little melancholy, the film is one long argument that the right person can cut through even the most elaborate philosophical defence.
