Over the Edge

Over the Edge (1979) is an American crime drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Jonathan Kaplan built the film around a simple, brutal premise: what happens when a town is designed for everyone except the teenagers who live there. New Granada has perfect lawns and no place to go — so the kids find their own.

Matt Dillon appears here nearly three years before The Outsiders, already carrying a restless, coiled quality the camera can't ignore. The teens drink, smoke, break things, and eventually push back hard enough that the adults can't pretend not to notice anymore. Kaplan drew from real events that shook a California suburb in the late 1970s.
