Synopsis
Sixteen Candles (1984) is John Hughes' teen comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Samantha turns sixteen and her whole family completely forgets her birthday.
It isn't cruelty. Her older sister is getting married the next day, and the house has gone fully chaotic over the wedding. Samantha (Molly Ringwald) is juggling everything at once: nobody remembers her, she's crushing hard on senior Jake Ryan who barely knows she exists, and a relentless freshman named Ted (Anthony Michael Hall) keeps trailing after her, at one point begging to borrow her underwear to win a bet. One miserable, mortifying day in the life of an ordinary girl.
Hughes basically launched the 1980s teen-movie wave with this one, and stacked the cast with soon-to-be stars: watch for John and Joan Cusack in small roles.
